Updated Format

Welcome! All of my current subscribers can easily tell that I’ve made some major changes to this blog. I updated the theme to enhance the amount of content you can read in one page. I also changed the color, because I felt that some people may not be able to easily see links. It took several days for me to find a theme that I like and to update it or hack it (as they say in blog terms). Thank you for sticking with me through the changes. I hope that you like the updates! Tell me what you think about the new theme.

Work at Home for Google

Google is hiring remote workers. You can be located anywhere in the United States, however, you must have a high-speed internet connection. A good command of the English language is also required. Read more about the job here.

Need Blog Traffic? Go to a Carnival

I’m participating in a carnival. There won’t be any clowns, hopefully, or cotton candy (regrettably) at this carnival. But if you want traffic for your blog, I suggest that you participate in a carnival too. In the blog world, carnivals are sort of like magazines, however, they have a different editor each week.

There are several different carnival topics; you can participate in a technology carnival, a frugal carnival, or a parenting carnival, for example. You, and other bloggers, each send an article to the carnival host. The host collects the articles and writes a long post, mentioning each submitted blog post and including a link to it. People who visit the carnival, which is located on the host’s blog, can read the host’s commenting post and click on links to the submitted articles.

Carnivals are great because people with blogs that receive a lot of traffic usually include links to upcoming carnivals (located on the host’s blog). People who are interested in your topic will scout out carnivals so they can read original content from experts.

I’ve read in a post on Free Money Finance that participants usually get a spike in traffic. Carnival hosts get a traffic jam for several days after the carnival. Begin by writing, and move on to hosting! Polish off an article. Check for the upcoming deadline, and submit your work. Some carnivals are held weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Here is where you can find a list of some carnivals .

Work at Home: Get Extra Money Filling Out Surveys

You probably have seen ads inviting you to sign up to take surveys, participate in focus groups, or read e-mails for cash. There are opportunities for you to earn work at home, earning cash and prizes through any of these opportunities; just keep in mind that you probably won’t become a millionaire this way. You may be able to put gas in your car once in a while or buy groceries, depending on how much you eat.

Certainly, you should sign up for several survey companies, because you often won’t qualify for every survey offered. Don’t send money to sites that require you to pay money for a survey list or to take a survey. There are plenty of free surveys for you to take, and there are probably hundreds of listings of sites that you can access for free on the internet.

It will take time to fill out the application for the survey companies. Of course, taking the surveys also take time. People who make money completing surveys spend probably at least 30 minutes a day answering questions. It’s also important that you are consistent and check for new surveys daily.

Make sure that you carefully fill out your profile on the survey sites and answer all survey questions with honesty.

Consider applying to some of these companies to earn money while working at home.

American Consumer Opinion will send you screener surveys to complete. Once you finish the screener, you will be entered to win prizes. If you get the opportunity to complete a survey in the actual project, you will earn cash or prizes. You can also get the opportunity to test a product, which you can keep.

With Greenfield Online surveys you can be entered into sweepstakes or earn cash, depending on the survey. After your apply, you will be given an opportunity to choose surveys that you can immediately fill out.

NPD offers you the opportunity to be entered into a sweepstakes upon completing surveys. I’ve receive several invitations to complete surveys through this program. I’ve never been lucky enough to win a sweepstakes, though.

You will have to download software on your computer to participate in the Nielsen panel. That’s a small price to pay if you were to win $1,000 or some great prizes. The software you download tracks the internet sites you visit.

I just signed up for Pet Buddies.org, for surveys related to pet care. I completed a screener application and it turns out that I qualify to receive surveys and/or products to test.

I’ve learned that Survey Spot sends out surveys for cash and sweepstakes entries. You can also qualify to test products.

Survey Savvy will send you surveys you can complete for entry into a monthly sweepstakes. You can also earn money based on the people you refer who complete surveys.

If you ever see a banner advertising Pinecone Research, sign up! Pinecone Research is a reputable research company that pays $5 for each survey you take. They’ll send you e-mails inviting you to participate. You can get several invitations per month. You can’t apply on the website, and they don’t disclose where the banners are located, and I haven’t been able to find one recently. I had been a member of Pinecone, but I got too busy, didn’t complete surveys, and before I knew it, my user name and password wouldn’t work. If I could find another banner, you can bet that I’ll try applying again.

Workaholic? A Real Work at Home Contractor Speaks

Most people feel that having one job is enough. People who work at home, however, have the tendency to work more hours and have multiple jobs. In a recent discussion on a popular work at home online forum, many posters said that they have several work at home jobs — the highest number was seven — and they work at home full-time. It’s easy to work longer hours when you are working from the comfort of your home and you are motivated by a desire to earn money. There is a risk however. You can easily become work at home workaholic. The trick is to schedule only as many hours as you can easily handle as Lena E. of Maryland recommends.

The 18-year-old college student says that her availability made her a prime candidate for work at home jobs. Networking helped her find work at home jobs. She received help from members at the WAHM.com job board. She began looking for work in October and landed her first work at home customer service job a month later. Nearly two months after she was hired for the first job, she learned that she had been hired for a second work at home job.

Sometimes applying for a job at the right time is more important than a particular skill-set.

“I didn’t have many skills to start with,” Lena says. “I was (and am) a student. I have spent all of my life being a student. I had done quite a bit of customer service-type volunteer work but didn’t have any work experience. I would say the best thing I had going for me at the time was availability. I let them know that I was a student and had minimal responsibilities. I made sure they knew that they would be my number 1 priority.”

Working at home helped improve Lena’s self-esteem and her relationship with her husband. She says that she now feels that she is making a difference by providing financially for her household. She admits, however, that not everyone agreed that working from home could present a legitimate opportunity to earn money.

What did her family think of her jobs?

“At first they were very skeptical,” Lena says. “I think I will quote my mom at this point. In her words they were ‘waiting for me to fall on my … with this work at home stuff.’ I had trouble making them understand that this was work and that there were times that I could not be interrupted. They changed their tune after a few paychecks came in. ”

Although Lena enjoys working from home, she says that it isn’t easy to juggle work and home life.

“When the dryer and the phone ring at the same time you have to make a choice, she says. “I don’t have any children but my husband is a lot of work by himself. He works outside all day so when he comes home, I have to take care of him after I have already been working all day. He doesn’t seem to understand sometimes that I am just exhausted. ” Tired or not, Lena says that she works during her scheduled hours. Although some say that working at home is a breeze, Lena admits that working the two jobs has impacted her health.

“My work is very full time, she says. “On a typical day, between both jobs, I work no less than 8 hours. Three to four days a week I work anywhere from 10 to 12 or more hours. Sometimes when my husband is away I work all night then again then the next day, but that has more to do with not wanting to sleep without him.”

In order to juggle work and home life, it’s important to set and keep a work schedule as well as setting aside time for household chores and personal time. It’s best to have a separate office or area in your home for your work. Getting your family’s support may be a challenge, but as Lena says, when your paycheck comes in the mail they will probably be more supportive and respect your work time.
