Become a Ghostwriter

One of my first gigs while I was in college was for a young gentlemen who wanted me to become a ghostwriter and write his novel. At the time, I understood that a ghostwriter is someone who writes with no byline, and I was not too keen on that idea. I did not really want to become a ghostwriter. I, however, fit just about every stereotype that you can think of, describing a starving artist. I was broke. I didn’t have a car. Maybe I did have my Geo Metro. Let’s say that I had half of a car. I didn’t realize that you can make excellent money a ghostwriter. Writers can get steady work as a ghostwrier. especially writing for the web. I wish that I had a guide, like the Essential Guide to Ghostwriting to help me ghostwrite early on. That would have saved me a lot of time. This guide will teach you how to take charge of career and become a ghostwriter, making a steady income while working from home. You will learn the necessary things that you absolutely must know to write e-books, articles, and other materials as a professional writer. Click Here!

Top Telework Companies

Looking for a job today? There are a few companies that hire large numbers of teleworkers, so any of these companies may have openings at any given time. Persistence is key when locating a telework position. Check back with these companies weekly, if possible. Most work at home companies have online forms to complete, but you shouldn’t send a different online application weekly!

Working Solutions is a virtual call center. The company hires people to answer customer service calls from home. You can apply onine to be an agent. You can register a user name and password to update your application. This is not full-time work, and work may not always be steady, but it can be a nice supplemental income to help you get out of debt. Insurance benefits are not offered at this time. You must be using Windows XP and you must have a quiet place to work for this job. A barking dog or a crying child could cost you your job! If you think that you may need additional work in a few months, I suggest that you apply now! They receive thousands of applicants and it could take weeks or months before they get back to you. This company communicates mostly via e-mail.

Live Ops - You can expect to handle infomercial orders and maybe even orders from shows like the Home Shopping Network and QVC. I am not saying that you will definitely be handling calls from these companies, but the calls may be similar to those received by these popular television shows. Like Working Solutions, you must have a quiet place in which to work. Background noises could cost you your job, because the customers should not know that you are working from home. I believe that you are paid based on the time spent talking to someone on the phone, which is called talk time; you may want to ask about that. Health insurance is not offered.

Alpine Access is yet another virtual call center. Alpine hires you as an employee, which is great for tax purposes (Americans). You don’t have to file quarterly taxes if you are an employee. Alpine also offers paid training and you are paid hourly, whether you are talking on the phone or not. Full time virtual employees qualify for health benefits! Alpine offers its teleworkers medical, dental, and participation in the 401K plan. According to the company’s website, virtual employees are invited to company picnics, networking opportunities. That job sounds like a dream!

How to Get Free Publicity: Avoid the Six Deadly Sins When Dealing With Reporters

I have been thinking lately about the days when I worked as a newspaper reporter. I suppose that I have been feeling a bit nostalgic. There are some things about being a reporter that I certainly don’t miss, and I think that other reporters may share these pet peeves. In any case, if you are interested in learning how to get free publicity, this is how you’d go about it.

It’s not hard to get free publicity, especially if you are trying to promote an event. If you are holding a conference, workshop, or any other event, simply write a short press release with the five Ws (who, what, when, where, why) and send it to the appropriate person — the calendar editor is a good person to send press releases to. Reporters are extremely busy. They may have to go out and report on a fire, a child who drowned in a pool, a murder, or a robbery. I remember that the newsroom was always chaotic! Editors were yelling about stories or shouting directions; reporters were scrambling around. Stacks of newspapers were everywhere. The stress level was super-high. Things may have changed since I left the newsroom, but I don’t that they have changed much. So, to have an amicable working relationship with reporters, avoid these sins!

1. Avoid calling at around 5 p.m. That’s deadline time and reporters hate receiving calls near crunch times unless the sky is falling, the reporter is expecting your call, or you have a change for an article that the reporter is curently writing. When I worked as a daily newspaper reporter, I hated when people called me to tell me about events, especially when I was trying to reach another source (interviewee) to answer a question or fill a hole in my story.

2. Don’t expect the reporter to print your press release. Reporters use the basic information in the press release (time, date, place and names) to write the article.

3. Don’t expect the reporter to come to your events. The reporter may or may not report on your event. You really want the reporter to have the information before the event so that they can publicize it.

4. Don’t send press releases about events that already occured. Events quickly lose the “who cares” angle when they are over. Make sure that you give the reporter plenty of time to report on an event. Send your press release at least two weeks in advance.

5. Don’t give information and then tell a reporter that something is off the report. Honestly, I’ll tell you that editors tell their reporters that nothing is ever off the record. You may or may not see your information printed. Do you really want to take that chance?

6. Never ask a reporter if you could read, edit, or proofread their article before it is printed. Most newspapers have a policy against that, because people tend to want to rewrite the article or change quotes when they read it. I remember that I had to write an article on school and mortgage taxes and I had trouble explaining the financial aspects in plain English. I asked my source to read part of what I had written and asked him if it made sense.

Use Video to Drive Traffic

Video blogs are the next big thing. Our lives revolve around video. Think about it. We have DVD players in our vehicles; we have miniature televisions that we can carry with us when we are not in our vehicles. We are also addicted to the Internet. I doubt that 10 years ago any of us thought that it would be essential to have the Internet on our telephones. As I surf the Internet, I am finding dozens of sites and blogs, created by ordinary people, using video to tell their stories or sell products. Incorporating video on your site could effectively lure traffic and buyers. In fact, I recently purchased a video camera after watching a homemade Internet video reviewing two camcorders that cost less than $200. I wanted a camcorder and couldn’t decide what to buy, but I didn’t feel like going to a million stores and having a salesperson tell me the pros (not the cons) of each in order to snatch a sell. The video guy had experience using both camcorders and was able to show and tell me about the products. How did I find him? I used a search engine. Ironically, I didn’t purchase the camcorder he recommended because I had different needs. I did purchase one of the two, though.

Do you have a product that you would like to sell? Do you have information to share? Why not create a video blog? You will need a camcorder, tripod, good lighting, and of course, a website or blog. After your make your recording, you can easily edit your footage with Windows Media Maker. I have used that software myself, and it’s not too complicated. Producer is another popular video editor. I have also heard of people using a program, called Vegas. Try to keep your video short, less than five minutes is best. Remember that people who have a slow Internet connection may not be able to see your video, or it may lock up their computers. So, limit your video to one screen per page. I believe that the best videos help people do something. Here are some examples:

Following a recipe
Planting a garden
Making a repair
Learning information

These videos fill a need and demonstrate a skill. Video appeals to part of the population because many people are visual and auditory learners; they learn by seeing and hearing. If you are lacking traffic, consider using video in addition to other traffic driving tactics. Video can reach a great variety of people and keep them coming back.

You can generate a feed by going to Feed Publish.com. Just fill out an online form and voila! You will have created your own feed. You will have more viewers, since now, your viewers can conveniently see your site without even going out and looking for that certain site. While at first, it may seem corrupt, it will in fact enhance the visibility of your site; this is so because users can easily keep up or keep tract with your site, to allow them to view in a way that they want to; it’s more probable that guests are aware should something that is in their interest is available or accessible on your site.
