Be Careful What You Wish For

I do not want to come across as having a negative attitude, just a realistic attitude. I currently write for a number of websites in addition to being active with two companies, a tutoring company (I tutor students online) and a document coding company. I work as a Quality Control person for the latter. I have, however, worked in a number of work at home jobs in the past. Most of the companies eventually began to freeze all outsourcing. I recall that a couple of companies that I worked for went out of business. One of these was a document coding company that filed bankruptcy and didn’t tell its off-site workers until the end was near. Some people lost a lot of money, because the company couldn’t meet payroll. I lost about $40, and I was glad that I didn’t lose more. A few of the companies that I worked for changed the rules on its workers, and that’s what this message is all about. I feel that work-at-home companies in general do not take off-site workers into consideration. If you work off-site, you will be last to know what’s going on. Rules are changed, and you will be hushed into silence due to confidentiality clauses that are part of your contract. See, off-site workers don’t have the luxury of being able to gather and meet with co-workers. If you are working 100% online, it is not likely that you will have an off-line friendship with co-workers. Since so many people would like to work online, companies don’t seem to value their off-site workers. They are easily replaced.
