I have a confession to make. I am a SHE, a Sidetracked Home Executive. * It’s easy to get so caught up into developing a home business, working (or looking for work at home) that you look around one day and say: “Oh my goodness, look at this mess! And where in the world are my keys?” Personally, I need a “clap on, clap off” device to keep up with my keys. Remember those? You clap a few times, and your lamp turns on and off? I need to be able to clap a few times and have my keys make an obnoxiously loud noise. One of my readers stated that I’m organized. Thanks, but we could all use a little help in that area.
Become a Flybaby
I don’t want to sound like a cheesy infomercial, but I have to tell you all about one of my sheros and one of my favorite sites. See, I’m what you would call a Flybaby. Every day I receive e-mail reminders telling me to clean my sink, find my shoes, take 15 minutes to clean a hot spot in my house, and bless my heart (by exercising). I’m even reminded to go to bed. I need that reminder, because once I get started on a project, I’m likely to stay up all night. Flybabies, like me, are people who aspire to become more organized. The e-mails I receive are courtesy of FlyLady. Check out her site! She believes that we need to become organized and eliminate clutter for productive business and personal lives. That concept is perfect for people who work at home. Organization will also help us to take better care of ourselves and our families.
Get Organized
FlyLady has awesome projects like a Control Journal. She also has directions on her site so you can make your own journal. She recommends supplies that you should carry with you in your briefcase (or large purse) when you are going out. Most importantly, she puts you on a schedule to help your organizational skills become routine. After a while, you won’t look around with panic in your eyes wondering where you should start organizing and cleaning. Everything will be clean and organize all the time. Imagine that beautiful world. Hot spots, you know the piles of stuff that appear to accumulate in certain places, will be eliminated. Poof!
Take Baby steps
Don’t worry. It’s not like you have to clean everything all at once (that was my technique). You work in baby steps. FlyLady sends you missions to concentrate on one room in your home at a time. She urges people not to worry that they are behind, easier said than done, but to just step right into the current mission. Missions provide detailed advice on what you should organize in a particular area in your home.
Pamper Yourself
FlyLady also wants you to pamper yourself and spend time “renewing your spirit.” I am reminded to pray and attend church. Dana, an associate on Fly Lady’s site, has weekly pampering missions. As I am writing this, the mission is to take a bubble bath. FlyLady and Dana believe that we should take time relaxing and taking care of ourselves.
We are a Flying Family
Once you become a Flybaby, you will learn that we are a family. There are actually Fly Lady clubs, in which groups of people who live near each other meet and communicate through e-mail groups. I believe that at one time Fly Lady had organized a cruise for us Flyers. She has helped a lot of people get their lives back. There are personal stories that will bring you to “purple puddles” or tears. Hey, instead of people getting on those home and life makeover reality shows, I think that they should give FlyLady a try. It’s more private! What do you think?
* SHE is a trademarked organizational system created by Pam Young and Peggy Jones.
