Use Video to Drive Traffic

Video blogs are the next big thing. Our lives revolve around video. Think about it. We have DVD players in our vehicles; we have miniature televisions that we can carry with us when we are not in our vehicles. We are also addicted to the Internet. I doubt that 10 years ago any of us thought that it would be essential to have the Internet on our telephones. As I surf the Internet, I am finding dozens of sites and blogs, created by ordinary people, using video to tell their stories or sell products. Incorporating video on your site could effectively lure traffic and buyers. In fact, I recently purchased a video camera after watching a homemade Internet video reviewing two camcorders that cost less than $200. I wanted a camcorder and couldn’t decide what to buy, but I didn’t feel like going to a million stores and having a salesperson tell me the pros (not the cons) of each in order to snatch a sell. The video guy had experience using both camcorders and was able to show and tell me about the products. How did I find him? I used a search engine. Ironically, I didn’t purchase the camcorder he recommended because I had different needs. I did purchase one of the two, though.

Do you have a product that you would like to sell? Do you have information to share? Why not create a video blog? You will need a camcorder, tripod, good lighting, and of course, a website or blog. After your make your recording, you can easily edit your footage with Windows Media Maker. I have used that software myself, and it’s not too complicated. Producer is another popular video editor. I have also heard of people using a program, called Vegas. Try to keep your video short, less than five minutes is best. Remember that people who have a slow Internet connection may not be able to see your video, or it may lock up their computers. So, limit your video to one screen per page. I believe that the best videos help people do something. Here are some examples:

Following a recipe
Planting a garden
Making a repair
Learning information

These videos fill a need and demonstrate a skill. Video appeals to part of the population because many people are visual and auditory learners; they learn by seeing and hearing. If you are lacking traffic, consider using video in addition to other traffic driving tactics. Video can reach a great variety of people and keep them coming back.
